Falcons 2nds have made their stamp in Middlesex early as they are crowned winners of the plate competition. After a difficult start having been grouped with the county’s top clubs, Falcons were placed in the plate competition. They soon got off to a flying start by beating Palmers Green with the second match against Challoners (having already lost to them once in the group round). The game was very close, with both sides displaying some excellent team spirit. We were definitely watching a stronger, more confident squad than the team who had started the day. Shooters Avis and Nicky grew with strength and confidence. The final result was another loss to Falcons, but they went through to the semi-final as runners-up where they faced Old Actonians.
The game started off very fast and physical with few goals being scored early on. Rosie Dutton made a huge impact throughout the mid-court and turned over a large percentage of the balls. Kerry and Deke combined as an excellent defensive unit and helped to bring the ball up the court as well. The shooting partnership was unstoppable with both Sarah and Megan scoring from all around the semi-circle, including some incredible long range accuracy. Abbie played a crucial part helping drive the ball into the shooters with Rosie Cotton making an impressive appearance at half time. A fresh pair of legs helped unsettle a struggling Old As. Falcons finished as winners and went into the final with confidence. All they had to do was beat a team they had already lost twice to early on in the day!
For the third time that day it was Challoners versus Falcons, but this was different, this time a more physical and passionate Falcons side took to the court and really wanted their silverware. Once again the girls made crucial interceptions all the way through the court with a superb work ethic from captain Becky. Every player showed great team spirit and didn’t stop fighting until the end. There was great support on the side line as well as some important words of wisdom. The final result stood as 6-5 to Falcons which was a well deserved win. They can now look forward to their new season in the county league.
Elswhere in the competition Falcons 1st finished top of their group and went into the cup competition. They then went on to lose one, draw one and win one which meant third place and not an opportunity to compete any further in the tournament.
Players of the tournament deservedly went to Lisa Chang of the 1st team and Deke Adebambo of the 2nd team. Both defenders had a very impressive tournament and were outstanding in every match.
